WOW! I don't even know where to start! I'm not sure where I left off, last week was pandamonium!! Just crazy and busy! School has been keeping me busy with lots and lots of reading and we are beginning to have papers due and exams...getting kind of stressful BUT it is still Roma and it is still AMAZING! BUT I have to talk about my weekend experience in Barcelona because boy was it beautiful and fabulous and just an all around perfect weekend! There was a group of about 12 of us and it was pretty crazy!
It started on Thursday evening and we set out for Barcelona. Our flight took off at about 730 I believe and it was about and hour and a half. We landed and had to catch a bus to Barcelona because the airport we landed at was about an hour and fifteen minutes away from Barcelona. We finally reached our destination and the journey was just beginning! We had to find our hostel which was crazy! Maps and beings able to speak spanish goes a long way! Luckily, we had a couple of fluent speakers so it wasn't too ba!! So, we finally arrived and dropped our stuff off and set out to see the nightlife. It was pretty cool! We went to this place called Limbus and it smelt really weird (which I seem to realize that A BUNCH of Europeans do not smell lovely!) But anyways, we hung out there for a while and decided to head back and get some rest.
On Friday we decided to go on a long marathon walk! But it was pretty cool! We went to this cathedral that has been under construction for 100 years and is supposed to be finished in 2020. Afterwards we walked some more and went to the Gothic town which was pretty cool I have to say! It was a different place but still beautiful! We then walked down to the bays with the boats in it and it was beautiful and well worth the walk. After some down time and taking in of the view we decided to head back so we could take a quick nap and rest up for the night. Friday night we all hung out and tried to find some good Spaniard food that wasn't crazy expensive but we got tired of walking and looking so we stopped at the oh so yummy...McDonalds! YES, they have McDonalds in Europe!! haha It was an expensive mcdonalds though and I hope I don't have to eat there again!
Saturday was the best day EVER! We decided to take the metro that day because it was cheap and we would be able to see more! Our first stop was at the famous park with the Lizard. I'm not exactly sure what it was called but it was BEAUTIFUL! (the weather cooperated with us all weekend!) It was very high on a hill that we rode up about 7 flights of escalators to get to the top along with some walking! It was nuts cus they were in the middle of the sidewalks! After that stop we went to Camp New (Neu?) where the Barcelona soccer team plays and the stadium was HUGE! There was also a soccer store right by and the boys were like kids in a candy store! It was funny! We ate lunch around there and then got on the metro once more and headed down to this Castle. The closest stop was kind of far away and we walked up this mountain (the castle was on top of it) and it was AMAZING! The walk was extremely long but well worth it! Along the way we ran into the Olympics in Barcelona that was held in 1992. It was pretty cool to see it! We finally got to the castle (2 hours later) and boy was it a sight to see! It was absolutely stunning! I LOVED it! It was so beautiful and we were there for sunset and on one side was the ocean and the other was mountains! It was amazing! It started to cool off so we hopped on a bus ride down and got back and had dinner with the whole group! We finally got some Espania food and it was interesting to say the least! I got Paella with shrimp and oysters...it was just okay but I am glad that I tried it! The rice mixed with whatever was actually really good but the shrump and oyster part disgusted me! THey were whole shrimp and it was staring at me so I couldn't even try it! The oyster actually didn't taste bad but my mind freaked out so I couldn't eat it, but Kurtis took the musles out of the oyster and mixed it in with my rice to think that I wouldn't notice when I took a bite of one, but oh yea, I noticed! haha But anyways, Saturday night we just hung out at the hostel and got to bed early.
Sunday morning we got up at 645 AM and headed on the journey home at 715. Our flight was at 1015 but it got delayed and didn't land back at Roma until about 1230. We then rushed back to campus to drop our stuff off and head to the AS Roma vs. Genoa game. It was definitely a good game and Roma won 3-0. It was pretty cool! Finally, we came back and it was dinner time and boy was I excited for some free cafeteria food...SERIOUSLY! It was then time to just hang out and relax for a little bit.
It was definitely a GREAT weekend!
Today wasn't anything special just more classes and our weekly Monday night meetings (which suck by the way). Last week it lasted for 2 hours this week it lasted for 30 minutes so I guess we never really know how long they are going to be!
But it has been about 3 weeks since i have arrived and I can't believe it! It is definitely going by pretty fast thus far!
